Founded in Hiroshima, Japan in 1920, the Mazda Motor Corporation started out with three-wheeled motorcycles called, “Autorickshaws.” These were the crown jewel of Mazda sponsored events in the 1930s, putting the Mazda name in the center of attention and causing the popularity of motorized carts to skyrocket. The first passenger vehicle was created in 1940, but Mazda was solely known for their three-wheeled carts. Mazda started meeting the demand for more affordable cars by compiling designs for compact cars, trucks, and three-wheeled vehicles that ended up leading to the creation of the famous Mazda rotary engine.
